My Elk Hunt

I took this bull elk in Northern Utah in November 2008. Having this opportunity to take such an amazing animal was an incredible challenge and thrill. I scouted for months and when I finally found this bull, I made a long hike each day for 3 days before the hunt to watch him. On opening morning he had moved, but I were able to get to him and make a much-practiced 320 yard shot. THE VIDEO SHOWS THE KILL SHOT, BUT IT IS NOT BLOODY OR GRUESOME. He scores 372″ Boone & Crockett.

The Call Of The Wild – Colorado Elk Hunt – 5 x 6 bull at 10 yards

We had just walked into the area. We sat down to watch this park. I actually missed about 5 minutes of footage becuase this bull caught us off guard. I was leaning back on my backpack half asleep when this guy shows up out of nowhere. I had to wait for him to look away before I could sit up and start the camera. He walked straight at us. We never called called or anything. Keep in mind there are 5 of us including 3 kids (9, 10, and 13); we’re not in a blind, on a ranch nor is this a guided hunt. It just goes to show how unpredictable an animal can be. He might have walked right over us had my son not moved his hands. He later admitted that he got scared and moved. You’ll see on the video when the bull catches the movement; you can’t blame him for being nervous. How many 9 years can say they have had a bull elk this close?
